Spades — No Download, No Signup

Spades is a bidding partnership game where Spades are permanent trump. Each player predicts how many tricks they will take, scoring ten points per trick when the contract lands and losing that value when it fails, with sandbag penalties for chronic overtricks.

There is nothing to install and nothing to update: the whole game ships as a few kilobytes of JavaScript that your browser caches after the first visit.

Bid what your hand can genuinely deliver — an accurate low bid beats an ambitious one, since bag penalties quietly erase a whole round of progress. That single habit separates players who finish roughly one deal in three from players who close out most of what they start, and it applies whether you are here for a two-minute break or a long session.

Performance matters as much as rules. The engine keeps all state in memory, renders with plain CSS transforms rather than heavyweight canvas loops, and never phones home mid-hand, which is why spades stays responsive on an ageing school laptop as readily as on a new phone. Sound is synthesised in the browser and can be muted in one tap, and progress survives an accidental refresh.
