Hearts Hard Mode — Expert Deals

Hearts is an avoidance game for four players where every Heart costs one point and the Queen of Spades costs thirteen. Play passes clockwise, you must follow suit when possible, and the lowest score once someone crosses 100 takes the match.

Hard mode strips away the training wheels: tighter deals, fewer forgiving stock passes, and scoring that rewards efficient sequencing rather than brute-force retries.

Void a suit early so you can safely discard the Queen of Spades, and track which high cards have already been burned before you lead anything above a ten. That single habit separates players who finish roughly one deal in three from players who close out most of what they start, and it applies whether you are here for a two-minute break or a long session.

Performance matters as much as rules. The engine keeps all state in memory, renders with plain CSS transforms rather than heavyweight canvas loops, and never phones home mid-hand, which is why hearts stays responsive on an ageing school laptop as readily as on a new phone. Sound is synthesised in the browser and can be muted in one tap, and progress survives an accidental refresh.
